FAQ

Do you do special commissions?

I do, so long as it is within my capabilities. Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning a one off piece.

Do you have attend any craft fairs?

Occasionally I do attend some craft fairs in and around Dublin. I’ll post details on my social media (links at the bottom of the page) pages whenever that happens.

What is your working process?

I source wood for my pieces from various places. I search skips and dumpsters in industrial estates looking for discarded hardwood timber. I also ask saw mills and timber merchants for any off cuts they are going to dispose of. I also seek out raw logs from tress that were cut down at peoples homes or business premises.

I mainly work with a scroll saw, fret saw and coping saw. Everything I do is done by hand, there’s CNC or computer controlled tools in my workshop.

I generally finish my pieces with natural oils such as boiled linseed, tung and danish oils. I will also sometimes use varnishes if a piece will benefit from it.

Do you do anything with epoxy resin?

I know it’s a popular material and is very versatile, but I do have a bit of an issue with epoxy resin. It’s really not great for the environment, it never biodegrades and contains a fair few nasty chemicals. I would only consider using it for a one off piece that I know would be treated as an heirloom and the risk of it being added to the waste stream was minimal.
